March 2009

We evaluated more than a thousand new models and picked winners across 11 categories, from small economy cars to crossovers, large SUVs and luxury sedans. The slide shows below offer our top picks in each category for Best in Class, Best New Car, Best Resale, and Most Fuel-Efficient. Which one is right for you?

The Porsche 906 or Carrera 6 was the last street-legal racing car from Porsche. A total of 65 were produced in 1966, allowing the model to be homologated for FIA’s new Group 4 Sports Car category although the 906 would also compete in modified form in the Group 6 Sports Prototype class.

A successor to the Porsche 904, and designed under Ferdinand Piëch’s new regime at Porsche R&D, the 906 replaced the boxed steel structure of the 904 which used the fiberglass body for extra structural strength with a tubular space frame and unstressed fiberglass body. The fiberglass itself was laid up by hand, producing consistent results, instead of the uneven spraying technique used on the 904.

The result was a car that weighed 1,300 lb, approximately 250 lb lighter than the 904/6. The engine regularly fitted was the 901/20 6-cylinder lightweight racing engine with 220 hp and carburetors, although some examples that were raced by the factory team received fuel injected 8-cylinder engines, especially in hillclimbing events where Porsche competed with Ferrari Dinos for the European championship

The New BMW M6 Convertible

The BMW M6 Convertible is a unique performer featuring the internationally acclaimed engine of the year - the 5.0-liter V10 - which produces an awesome 500 bhp and maximum torque of 383 lb-ft. With a suspension developed for supreme dynamics and a Sequential M Gearbox (SMG) complete with Drivelogic, this ultimate power unit turns the latest product from BMW M into an open sports car able to accelerate to 60 mph in just 4.6 seconds.Measuring 190 inches in length, BMW M's new high-performance convertible is about 2 inches longer than the BMW 6 Series Convertible due to its rear air dam, optimized for supreme aerodynamic performance.Typical of BMW's M Cars, the M6 Convertible also features four exhaust tailpipes at the rear. The roof of the BMW M6 convertible is made of three layers. A special noise and heat insulating layer of polyurethane (PUR) foam comes between the rubberized outer layer and the interior roof lining. Thanks to its unique fin-roof look, the soft top boasts the same dynamic contours as the Coupe. The wide C-pillar is characterised by BMW's famous Hofmeister 'kick'.A vertically positioned rear window can be electrically adjusted to move up or down, regardless of whether the roof itself is open or closed. The roof itself can be opened or closed either by remote control or via a button on the instrument panel with the entire process either way taking less than 25 seconds.Electronic Damper Control (EDC) offers three control programs, each enabling the driver to set the suspension to the desired mode ranging from sporting and firm to comfortable. The P400 performance program is automatically activated as soon as the engine is started and as its name indicates offers immediate output of 400 bhp output. By pressing the Power Button, the full power and dynamism of the ten-cylinder engine can be called up.

Pontiac G8 Sport Truck (2010)

For about the past twenty or so years the El Camino, which use to be oh so famous was basically extinct and you rarely ever seen one unless living out in the country somewhere. Although the new 2010 Pontiac G8 Sport Truck won’t have the official tag and stamp of the El Camino; it looks very similar in style apart from it being more modern looking. The Pontiac was unveil during the 2009 International New York Auto Show and it will be a long awaited entry to the market for some old-timer collectors out there, I can guarantee that. This truck will be powered by a nice 6.0 Litre V8 engine and it will be able to output a solid 361HP. For a truck, 361HP is not bad, although it could be a bit better. This thing will definitely fly down the open road and the way it’s designed makes it look somewhat aerodynamic. It will only have the option of a six speed automatic transmission, so if you like manual you will need to settle for automatic, at least for the time being. The truck can hit 0-60Mph in just about 5.4 seconds which is about a half second quicker then most sports cars on the market right now. GM has done a lot of tweaks to the sport truck in order to get it prepared for the market and they have done a great job with this model and you should see good results. The G8 will be able to carry over 1000 pounds in the back of the truck and also be able to tow roughly 3500 pounds, which means you can haul quite a bit with the sport truck. You wouldn’t think by appearance that it would be a strong as it is but it was made to be able to perform like any other truck while at the same time maintaining a sport feel to it.

Saleen S5S Raptor Concept Pictures & Review (2008)

When you see it for the first time, you may think it is Ferrari or a Lamborghini. But you will be surprised to know this yellow one is an all American car. The Saleen S5S Raptor was introduced at the New York Auto Show on 20th March 2008. This could be a in the history of the new high performance car The two seater model Raptor with its engine at the middle is the first project from Saleen’s new management team. This is Saleen’s follow up to the much hyped S7 super car. The ‘S5S’ name stands for Saleen 5-liter supercharged motor, which produces monstrous power of 650 horsepower and 630 lb-ft of torque. And this is a green car with the engine which runs on ethanol. Saleen chose the ethanol burning engine to help reduce emissions and oil dependence. It reaches 0 to 60 MPH in 3.2 seconds. The Saleen S5S Raptor achieved a top speed of over 200 MPH.The over all look of the car is simply astonishing. It is definitely going to turn heads wherever it goes. The sexy front flanks and wedge design is perfect for the super car. You can see the speed even in the design of its head lights. The Saleen S5S Raptor is subtler version of its predecessor S7 and is made with light weight aluminum composites. Sun light drizzles through the solar tinted glass sun roof. Saleen says that the S5S Raptor could be on the road in two years at an estimated $185,000, depending on the public’s reaction to this car.

Maybah Exelero,very expensive supercar

Maybach Excelero,a luxury car produced by Maybach in 2005,a two-seat super car powered by a V12 engine. The engine is from Maybach 57 S,another great german car.The Maybach Excelero wasn’t launched for sale. The company manufactured only one, so we can say it’s a prototype. Equiped with a twin-turbo 5,9 liter V12 engine, generating over 700 HP. Now that’s real power. As for the design, it is kind of special. Many opinions said it was good for a BatMobil, because of it’s bodykit. The only original Maybach component is the front grid. The interior is all black and red leather and carbon fiber. This car has only two seats, so we can say it’s a sport car. But this one is unique. The whole Excelero was hand built and . Not anyone could buy this one. so much about Maybach Excelero, car with a monster power. For those money you can buy a lot of Lamborghinis,

The weird and wonderful Hummer limousine

The Hummer limousine is becoming more and more popular and is today used for everything, from business meetings and corporate events to prom nights and bachelor parties. When you see a modern dolled-up Hummer limousine it can be hard to believe that this car can trace its ancestry back to the military hummer, formally know as the M998 High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicle. The civilian Hummer is a fairly new invention but the history of the military High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicle begins in the 1970s when the United States Armed Forces decided that they needed something to replace their militaries trucks. AM General, a subsidiary of American Motors Corporation, became responsible for preliminary a design and prototype construction, and soon they had managed to create a High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicle. This car naturally had very little in common with the modern Hummer limousines of today. Hummer limousines are definitely High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicles, but they are certainly not suitable for rough terrain. The exact length of a Hummer limousine can vary from manufacturer to manufacturer, but they are usually around 38 feet long 15 feet longer than a Hummer H2. A majority of the Hummer limousines available from rental agencies are fitted with glamorous SUV-seats in black or red leather and the maximal number of passengers depends on the interior decorations
